Broadband as we are talking about it now is a short lived phenomina. Giant
bandwidth at low prices will establish a market and perceived need. New
standards like IP6 will allow all traffic to be metered and prioritized.
All you can eat access is dying. I agree that people will have access to
multi meg pinned up connections. But usage billing will be back in a big
way. As voice traffic is migrated from long distance carriers to IP
traffic, companies like MCI will begin billing IP traffic at rates similar
to todays long distance. None of this stuff is free it just sort of looks
like it right now. And no major telco is going to kill itself giving free
access to backbone traffic.
