My company is looking at some ISP acquisitions, and I'm trying to locate web
resources listing the range of prices ISPs are being paid for different
types of subscriber bases and assets. I'm having a VERY difficult time
finding "free" resources -- ie ISP Report is a paid subscription, as is 1
other I found. I'm finding that even public companies don't need to
disclose exactly how much / what they bought. Any one else found any info
on this topic anywhere?

Dear Wendy,
You might better pose this question to Sparky's isp-investor list.

Wendy,
I'm just curious, you say your company is looking to acquire ISP's, yet your
not willing to pay for the information needed to make a proper assessment of
what they are worth? How are you planning to purchase these ISP's if you
don't have a budget to work with on gathering accurate information?
There's an old saying in business, you've probably heard it; "You get what
you pay for in this world." If you want information that costs nothing
that's exactly what you'll get; information that's worth nothing. You could
be making a colossal mistake relying on the wrong information... When you
pay for something, at least you have some recourse if the "product" is
defective...
I'd go back to your boss(es) and tell 'em its time to get real.
Get a Price, Waterhouse, or a D&B, or some other Professional to look at the
businesses you have offered to you. Do not take the ISP's word for how much
they are doing, what they are selling what for, or anything else they say.
And don't trust their rate cards because EVERYONE discounts. They have a
vested interest in lying to you. Most ISP's that I've come across in my
career are run by kids. Not business professionals. Kids, fresh out of
college or even high school with absolutely no "real world" experience.
That's why 80% of them go under within two years. Get an independent, a
professional who knows what to ask, how to ask it, and how to separate the
wheat from the chaff.
Just my humble opinion. And, no our operation is not for sale.
