Our goal is to create a global map that can serve as a resource to children
worldwide.
We have worked for eight months gathering information from the United

We would love to see international participation in one of two ways.
1. Email or send by postal mail a photograph representing the area in
which you
live. You may write your own description and we will credit the
photographer. In addition we will link to school or student pages of those

combine
the projects as an integrated whole.

Subject: [I.T.] Student Reporters (revised)
How would your class like to be Road Scholars reporters?
Each new WebAdventure will feature real schools along the way. Take a look
at the sample site for Road Scholars ONLINE with Jeeves to see what it's
all about. If you are interested -- don't delay, once we have 12 schools
ready to report -- that's all we need!
To participate, your class (or a group of students) must do a bit of quick
research and
exploration and send us a video tape telling us "what it's like where you
live!" The deadline
for the first WebAdventure, "Road Scholars", is October 15. The video
footage can be straight forward or from any creative perspective, just as
long as it illustrates the following:
- the type of vegetation in your part of the world (deciduous forests,
grasslands,desert);
- Route 66 landmark(s)
- changes that have occurred in your town or city since Route 66 was
established in 1926
- population increase or decrease
- new or vanishing industries or economies
- environmental problems or concerns
- the exterior of your school
We realize you and your students are not professional videographers. Don't
worry --- our editors will grab still frames and maybe a sound bite or two
to create a special Road Scholars page all about you! A link to your school
website, will be added, and you can add even more about "what
it's like where you live" to your own server.
If you'd like to participate, send us a return email as soon as possible,
telling us what's unique about where you live. Or call us for more
information at 1-800-927-9229 Ext. 213.
For those of you in other parts of the world --- we'll be featuring
additional schools in the upcoming WebAdventures:
- Rolling Down the River (schools which are working on some sort of
freshwater aquatic study)
- North Through Alaska (schools from Sitka to Barrow)
- From Sea to Shining Sea (schools near an ocean, gulf, or bay)
If your school is selected, you will receive free access to the program --
6 weeks of directed on-line lessons -- and three video tapes from our
"What's It Like Where You Live" series!
