Subject: Town Meeting -- Girls & Education

A DEGREE IN SCIENCE OR MATHEMATICS can help open doors to a
growing number of well-paying & rewarding careers. But nearly
half of the American workforce -- women -- sometimes find
themselves discouraged from excelling in science & math.

What can schools & communities do to ensure that girls have
opportunities to excel in these & other disciplines?

That question is the focus of this month's Satellite Town
Meeting. On Tuesday, July 16th, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time,
Secretary Riley & Deputy Secretary Kunin will host a live
teleconference with a panel of educators & local leaders from
around the country who will share successful strategies for
helping girls succeed in math, science, computer technologies,
& other fields where they're under represented. Topics will
include:

* What barriers in the classroom may discourage girls from
excelling in the sciences?

* What can be done to encourage girls to pursue advanced
study in science & math -- fields where they are
traditionally under represented?

* What educational opportunities prepare girls for
leadership positions in the workplace & the community?

* What roles do families, schools, employers & community
groups have in helping girls develop their full
educational potential?

Coming to you live via satellite from the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce in Washington, D.C., this Town Meeting -- "Women &
Girls in Education: What's Working in Schools & Communities"
-- will also highlight print & online resources that address
this issue. For example, The Women's Education Equity Act
(WEEA) Publishing Center offers books, pamphlets, working
papers & fliers to address these and many other issues. Call
1-800-225-3088 or request information through e-mail at

Subject: WWW> Introducing a unique worldwide multimedia project!!

Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 00:09:52 +0200
From: Guy Van Damme <Guy.Va...@ping.be>

May I introduce SPORTS MEDIA . Sports Media is a team of specialists ,
including Belgian topcoaches and professors of university. In our
projectgroup we have the general-secretary of the worldwide life saving
union : ILS . This union has 23 million members all over the world .
Our team consist of : marketing manager , content-experts, producer ,
researchers, conductor of the project and administrative manpower.
We have not the experts for publishing the CD-ROM .At this stage has the
publisher a big task and responsibility .

This CD-ROM project is unique ,because there isn't yet for the moment a
same great project .It is a universal project . The project is
registered.
What are our goals ?
-we have the best Belgian sportsspecialists and coaches
-our project is a serie of several sports
-we have a big market :education (all college market)
recreation (all customer market)
business ( all sportclubs ,coaches)
-it is a multilingual project
-we build a great interactive structure with a lot
of:video;texts,images,data,animations,film
-new topics can attribute to a surplus value : for example :
games,physical tests,first aide ,etc.
-our product is very flexible, because we put a lot of exercices on the
disc.
-there are several levels (beginner - top)
-sport pedagogics
-it is an International product
-our project is on Internet url : http://www.ping.be/~ping7330/

What is our strategy ?
We have the intention to start with "Life Saving" , because in our group
we have the general-secretary of ILS (23 million members) - it is a big
market - and first we try to conquer the Belgian market ,then the
BENELUX ,then the European and the American (also the worldwide) market
.We hope to do this in a period of 3 years.
Also we try via online shopping to sell the CD-ROM . Momently there are
60 million people on the Internet . At 2000 ,there will be 500 million
people surfing the net .

Our contacts:
For the moment we have contacts with:
-BELGACOM :an Belgian multinational of communications.
-HYPERVISION : is an Belgian multimedia publisher .

What is our deal ?
Our projectgroup has very competent people,we have a very good project ,
only the latest novelty of multimedia is good enough for us .Our group
is a multi disciplinary team and that's the reason that our research can
attribute to a better product .
It isn't a low cost project , that's why we are looking for publishers
and concerns for distribution .
If there is a concern ready(interested) to finance the project ,then is
the whole benifit for that concern and only the royalties are for SPORTS
MEDIA .
For more details of for discuss about the project ,please take contact
with our marketing manager ,H. Vervaecke .

This one-day interactive demonstration of Internet resources for
molecular biology is directed toward those working in the biological
sciences, e.g., biobusiness, bioinformatics, bioethics, bioeconomics, and
education, who need a better perspective on databases, software tools,
and data analytical techniques specific to molecular biology.

All instructors are molecular biologists with extensive experience in
bioinformatics and use of the Internet. All demonstrations will be on a
large screen and graphics presentations will be in George Mason
University's virtual reality laboratory.

Retrieving and interpreting information in genome-specific and
macromolecular sequence databases will be emphasized--for example, how to
query databases by text and sequence, how to find related bibliographic
and genome-specific information, how to analyze sequences. An electronic
tutorial on disk will be provided to enable participants to revisit all
World Wide Web sites demonstrated during the workshop. It is expected
that participants be familiar with the basic terminology of molecular
biology, although not necessarily skilled in molecular techniques.

FILM SCOUTS Announces Summer Broadcasts
http://www.filmscouts.com

NEW YORK, July 1, 1996: Fresh from the successful webcast celebrating
the 1996 Cannes International Film Festival, Film Scouts On The Riviera,
which earned the site an unprecedented second pair of those "cool" shades
from Yahoo (among other accolades), Film Scouts summer plans feature
tributes to the films of summer, and a look towards the Fall with cybercasts
from the Deauville and Venice film festivals.

Cannes is concluded, but the Film Scouts On The Riviera pages are still
being updated. The site will track the films that were the talk of Cannes to
their premieres and beyond. Recent additions to the content page are
exclusive video interviews with Liv Tyler, Bernardo Bertolucci (Stealing
Beauty), David Cronenberg, Rosanna Arquette (Crash), Martin Landau, Francis
Coppola, Dustin Hoffman, and Udo Keir (Breaking The Waves), among the 40
video interviews that are currently playing. And look for an announcement of
a special mutlicast retrospective of our MBone Cannes broadcast in July.

CoolTalk works great! The big challenge is finding a person to talk
to. This site solves that problem!

Netscape has a phone book solution, but most people have hung up by
the time you call them.

CoolTalk is a Netscape plug-in which turns your internet connection
into a telephone so you can talk over the internet.

Try the CoolTalk Meeting Room. When you visit you can find someone to
talk to or press a button to let other people know you are waiting for
a call.

Make sure you turn on the CoolTalk program before waiting for a call!

List Members:

The Fall 1996 Connected Classroom Conference will be held at the Disneyland
Hotel in Anaheim, California on November 6-9, 1996. I am in need of
experienced, succesful presenters to give workshops at the conference.

The CCC takes a non-traditional approach to seminars in that we do not
issue a "Call for Presentations." Rather, we develop the presentation
topics and look for presenters who can teach the prescribed topics. An
initial list of topics can be found on our CCC#2 web site (not yet released
for public use) at http://www.classroom.net/disney/workdescrips.html.
(The site is very much under construction. The "under construction"
conference default is www.classroom.net/disney/ if you want additional
information. Please pardon our dust.)

Interested presenters, especially "teachers in the trenches," should send
vitae to sn...@classroom.net ASAP. Include presentation experience, if
any, and mention any significant Internet experience you may have had.
Your URLs from projects are also welcome and appreciated.

Thank you for your interest!!
