inode size calculation in ext2_iget

In ext2_iget inode size is calculated as
inode->i_size | = ((__u64) le32_to_cpu(inode->i_size_high)) << 32;


Can someone help me understand the crux of this calculation and the associated data layout that exactly prints the inode size when printed?
