Position: SAS Developer

Location: Providence, RI 02908 - Remote until safe to be onsite

Duration: 6 Months

Rate: $40-45/hr on C2C

 

As part of the emergency response to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) COVID-19 Epidemiological Operations Unit is hiring for multiple SAS Programmer positions to develop new analysis & insights for the RIDOH-COVID-19 Unit.

 

The team is seeking experienced SAS developer/epidemiologists who possess the ability to think critically, infer epidemiologic connections, understand large and complex datasets, and have the technical know-how to translate this knowledge into reusable code.  Intermediate to Advanced SAS knowledge is required where general responsibilities may include data engineering practices (data ingestion, cleaning, & processing from multiple sources), code reviews, analysis and creation of reports that examine segments of syndromic surveillance, contact tracing, and epidemiological tracking data, along with other program requests & priorities as needed.

 

Required Skills:

•             2  Years professional experience as a SAS Developer with demonstrated abilities in:

     o        Dataset merges, SQL Joins, and Sub-setting of data

     o        Navigating Data Types and the ability to work with and convert character & numeric data as needed

     o        Effectively managing duplicate records with appropriate tools to de-dup and synthesize information across multiple records.

     o        Writing well documented & reusable code, including the use of macro variables and programs

     o        Various forms of reporting and output formats (tabular reports, excel/csv files, etc.)

     o        Proficiency with common data management solutions (Excel)

•             Aptitude to explore new datasets and architect suitable approaches in operationalizing the data

•             Ability to work independently & take initiative on assignments in large scale projects as part of a multidisciplinary & agile team

•             Excellent communication skills in managing multiple requests & priorities through email, meetings, Microsoft Teams Chat, etc.

 

Desired Skills:

•             SAS Certifications

•             Previous experience working with Salesforce or other relational databases

•             Previous experience working on infectious disease surveillance
