Parents of the Class of '09:

Many of you are looking forward to your child's graduation from high school in June.  Graduation is a wonderful celebration of the journey that began with youngsters going to their first day of kindergarten and who are now ready to enter college and the "real world".  The night after Mira Loma's graduation ceremony, the PTSA is sponsoring an annual safe and sober Grad NIght Party and your help is desperately needed NOW.

Grad Nights are currently held by thousands of schools nationwide.  They were conceived about 30 years ago as a solution to the problem of students who celebrated graduation with a night of partying, drinking, and driving that too often resulted in serious injury and even death.  Even today, alcohol related automobile accidents are the number one cause of deaths among teenagers.

Mira Loma's safe and sober Grad Night '09 will be held at Country Club Lanes from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am and will feature live entertainment, all night bowling, laser tag, casino games, face painting, a crazy hair lady, a hypnotist, and all the food teenagers love to eat.  All of this is necessary to make the party attractive and fun for the new graduates.  In past years, the party has cost between $30,000 to $40,000, even though we receive many donations and much support from the community.  The total bill pays for the facilities, security, activities, entertainment, food and decorations.

In order to keep the cost of tickets low, most of the money to pay for Grad Night comes from parents volunteering Monday nights at the bingo fundraiser.  Although all classes are currently falling short in raising funds for their own Grad Night accounts, the Grad Night account for the class of '09 is seriously short of its goal and there is little time remaining in which to make up the shortfall.   Parents are asked to volunteer at bingo nights as soon as possible and as often as possible to help pay for this special event for your children.

Contact Demaris Canton, the Grad Night Chair, at
mzsca...@hotmail.com to volunteer at bingo for the class of '09.
