Hi,

I’m Maia, Project Manager at Dalia’s Book, a Romanian nonprofit organization focused on digital education for children.

We currently use Machine Learning for Kids as the core platform for our “AI with Scratch” course, where volunteer mentors teach children across Romania. First of all, thank you for building and maintaining such a valuable free resource. It has been incredibly useful for our programs.

As we scale, we’ve started running into recurring issues related to API key management for mentors. In particular, many mentors struggle with activating or maintaining their watsonx Assistant credentials. From what we understand, Lite plan services may be deleted after periods of inactivity, which becomes difficult in our setup since mentors typically teach weekly rather than using the platform daily.

This creates quite a bit of friction at the beginning of classes, especially for volunteers who are not highly technical.

We wanted to ask:

  1. Would a nonprofit educational organization like ours potentially qualify for a “Managed Class” setup, where API access is handled centrally?
  2. Is there any recommended way to manage accounts or API access more efficiently across a larger mentor network, where each mentor works with their own student group?

Happy to share more details about our program if useful.

Thank you again!

Best,
Maia Albulescu

re: 1) Yes - absolutely, that would be fine
re: 2) I'm surprised to hear of Lite plan services being deleted after only a week, as I've not heard of that before. My understanding of the approach for Free tier services (https://www.ibm.com/products/cloud/free) is that API keys are removed after 30 days of inactivity. In any case, if we switch you to a managed class, this issue goes away for you anyway.

For next steps, I recommend emailing me with your account details so I know which account(s) you'd like to get changed.

Kind regards
