The closing date from the UP Master's degree in Big Data Science program has been extended to end of December 2021. Get more information on the program here

To be admitted for the program, students need a minimum of 65% in honours degrees with a pass in the following:
  • Mathematical statistics or statistics
  • Mathematics (preferably Calculus and Linear Algebra)
  • Programming subject or at the discretion of the Programme Organiser
Once your academic transcript can prove and reflect core modules in mathematics, statistical or linear algebra, and computer science(e.g., data structure, Java, or C++), I don't see why you will not pass the screening exercise. It is a highly competitive program, so prerequisite courses must be taken for a grade at an accredited college or university (or the international equivalent) rather than coursera courses or online certification. If your previous degrees are foreign, you will need to apply to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to have your degrees accredited. Your SAQA certificate will need to be included in the documentation of your online application.

The online process to apply:

Applications open: UP Master's degree in Big Data Science. Get more information on the program below:

To be admitted to the MITC program (i.e., Big Data Science), students need a minimum of 65% in honours degrees with a pass in the following:

Due to the COVID-19 restriction, the classes are hybrid or face-to-face. However, for the 2023 academic year, a compound class has been proposed, and consequently, our MIT programmers are scheduled to be day-module with at least two days a month to attend classes at the Hatfield campus. The online process to apply:
  • An online application opened on March 1, 2022 on the UP website at www.up.ac.za/apply
  • There is only one intake in January of every year.
Kind regards
