Dear Judith Hilkert,
The first goal of the ALA Ahead to 2010 strategic plan is that ALA and
its members are leading advocates for libraries and the library
profession. We need to take action and encourage others to do so as
well.
I am pleased to announce that ALA and 25 Chapters have joined together
through the Capwiz online advocacy system to provide action alerts
directly to members. (The list of 25 initial Chapters to participate
can be found at http://www.ala.org/chapters/advocacy.)
You soon will start to receive alerts from the ALA Washington Office
when urgent action is needed to support libraries, librarians, and
library users. Through this system it will be easy for you send
messages to your legislators. The system automatically identifies
your legislators, and ALA provides talking points and language for
your messages.
You'll also be able to forward the action alerts to colleagues,
friends, family, library users, and anyone else you would like to join
us in fighting for libraries.
I encourage you to take the time to respond to these action calls when
you receive them.
Sincerely,
Loriene Roy
President
American Library Association
