In assignment 1, can we suppose that variances are the same in both
classes due the distribution is spherical gaussian?

I suppose he is talking about the first question in the exam... But,
if we want to write it in terms of t1.||x1-mu1|| <=t2.||x2-
mu2||, if we don't suppose that variances are equal , we will find a
independent term on the way t1.||x1-mu1|| + B <= t2.||x2-mu2||. Am I
wrong?
