The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, Germany, seeks to fill a fully funded PhD position, starting from January 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project aims to develop numerical methods for the training of deep learning architectures.
The research will be jointly supervised by myself, at the Emmy Noether Group on Probabilistic Numerics, in the department of Empirical Inference, and by Javier Romero, at the department of Perceiving Systems. It will require both abstract, open-ended mathematical research and practical coding. The project offers an unusual opportunity to combine theory with praxis, and to work closely with experts in either area.
There is no deadline for applications. The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. We encourage interested students to apply as soon as possible, by writing to ‘phennig’ or ‘jromero’ at
tue.mpg.de.
The MPI IS is a leading institution in machine learning, computer vision and robotics, offering rich social and technological infrastructure for PhD students. Tübingen is an international college town in the heart of Europe, the working language at the institute is English. To find out more, visit
