We (Energy Systems Catapult) are organising a series of data science competitions in the area of energy networks on behalf of Western Power Distribution a major network operator in the UK.

The aims of these challenges include:

  1. Demonstrating the value in making data openly available
  2. Increasing the visibility of some of the challenges network operators face
  3. Increase the understanding of the different ways to tackle some of these problems
  4. Providing high quality and accurate benchmarks with which to enable innovation and research
We have recently launched the second challenge which is about estimating the demand of electric vehicles embedded within a low voltage network. The challenge is here:

https://codalab.lisn.upsaclay.fr/competitions/1324

Further information (as well as presentations from the winners of challenge 1) can be found in the recording for the kick-off event here:

(Note a zoom failure cut off a bit of information at the end but all details can be found on the above codalab page)

The data can be found here:

If you are interested in the previous challenge then you can find details here,

and  the complete data from challenge 1 (including the 1minute resolution data for 3 primary substation feedes) has now been update here: https://connecteddata.westernpower.co.uk/dataset/western-power-distribution-data-challenge-1-high-resolution-peak-estimation
