Dear all,

our campus in Tübingen is growing and we are filling attractive positions in multiple fields and institutions (both science and administration). Dual career applications are explicitly encouraged, as are applications of women and groups that are underrepresented.

This is ideal for anyone who wants to get involved in creating the future of modern and responsible machine learning. We are looking for people who are outstanding, yet feel they want to be part of something bigger and work together with others - all the way from students to seasoned researchers (including the possibility to advise students). We expect people to aim for non-incremental research and to publish at the most competitive international venues in the field. This can be proven by a track record in such conferences, or - for students, or people who come from adjacent fields - by other proofs of excellence.

Particular scientific areas include (but are not limited to):

- learning causal world models to build intelligent agents that exhibit robust and transferable behavior

- computational photography and astronomy

- data-driven brain machine interface research

- machine learning for microbiome science and nutrition

- trustworthy machine learning in health care, privacy, fairness, etc

- theory of machine learning

We have research openings both at Max Planck lab as well as at the Tübingen Amazon lab.

In addition, we are looking to fill up to three administrative positions:

- a scientific coordinator for ELLIS, the nascent European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (https://ellis.eu)
- a scientific coordinator for the joint Max-Planck-ETH center for learning systems (both these ideally with a Ph.D. in a field related to ML/AI)
- a lab manager / executive assistant at Max Planck (with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, part time or full time)

If you are interested in the above opportunities, please contact Bernhard Schölkopf <b...@tuebingen.mpg.de>. For positions at Max Planck, please CC Lidia Pavel <lpa...@tuebingen.mpg.de>.
