PhD Position on Responsible Algorithms for Platform Co-operativism

QUB's LINAS Interdisciplinary PhD programme offers a number of funded PhD positions at the interface between AI and social sciences. The last date for applications is Jan 31st, 2023.

I am particularly keen on getting candidates for a new exploratory PhD project on Algorithms for Platform Co-operativism, co-supervised by QUB Politics colleague, Muiris MacCarthaigh.
While more details of the project are available at https://lnkd.in/g_2xUcwx , the core motivation behind the project is to contribute to the emerging resistance against the exploitative work models underpinning the gig economy, where workers are increasingly pushed into precarious working patterns. Complementary to the predominant political and legal forms of resistance, this project will focus on developing algorithmic capacity towards ensuring better working and remuneration models to aid the emerging movements around co-operative platforms.
This funded studentship will cover stipend and fees for UK/IRL candidates, and will provide stipend and part-fee-contribution (small part, unfortunately) to fees for others.
