Funded MSc/PhD positions are available in my research group at the
University of Calgary, Canada. I am specifically looking for
candidates interested in working on generative modeling approaches for
explainable AI, longitudinal modeling, and shape analysis in several
areas of medical image computing (e.g., neuroimaging, ophthalmology,
…). In general, the positions come with a lot of flexibility and
freedom to carry out research depending on the specific interests and
prior knowledge of the successful candidates. However, priority will
be given to applicants with research interests in generative modeling
with longitudinal neuroimaging data to analyze brain development and
aging.

Successful candidates will be part of a thesis-based Biomedical
Engineering graduate program (MSc or PhD) at the University of Calgary
and need to fulfill the program’s general admission requirements (see
[1]) and should have a GPA of 3.5 or higher in a BSc/MSc degree
related to Computer Science/Engineering/.... Moreover, all candidates
are expected to have prior (research) experience in machine
learning-based medical image analysis or computer vision and need to
possess excellent, provable Python programming skills.

If you are interested in a position, then please send me your CV,
transcripts, a brief statement of motivation, and a preferred start
date (see [1] for more information about intakes) via email
(matthia...@ucalgary.ca subject line: Graduate Position 2024
<your name>). There is no strict deadline for applications and the
positions are available until filled. Incomplete applications will not
be considered and, unfortunately, only candidates chosen for an
interview will be contacted.

Calgary, Canada’s fastest growing major city, is vibrant and
multicultural with a population of approximately one million. Situated
less than one hour from the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park, and
Lake Louise, Calgary offers great quality of life and outstanding
recreational activities such as hiking and skiing. Our group is part
of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary and
affiliated with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and
the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, which provides ample opportunities for
close collaborations with other basic researchers and clinicians.
