The group of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Informatics of TU Munich invites applications for the position of a full-time doctoral student for conducting theoretical research in the field of machine learning and deep learning. The position will be funded through the Research Training Group ConVeY and remuneration is according to German public sector rates.

Research: 

The research group Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence focusses on the theoretical aspects of machine learning and AI. The group works at the intersection of AI and statistics and uses mathematical tools from statistical learning theory, high-dimensional statistics and information theory to analyse the performance of ML algorithms and the complexity of big data AI problems. The successful candidate will conduct research on statistical learning theory, deep learning theory and robustness. 

Responsibilities: 

The candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research in the area of machine learning and publish at top machine learning conferences. The position also requires the candidate to assist in teaching or supervision of bachelor/master thesis. 

Qualification: 

The candidate must have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics or related fields with prior experience in machine learning or statistics. Excellent mathematical and programming skills are mandatory. Good communication skills (oral and written) in English are required. Knowledge of German is not needed. 

Our offer: 

We offer a full-time (100%) position as academic staff with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. The position will be funded through the Research Training Group ConVeY. The position is available immediately, but will be filled only if there is a suitable candidate.
