Hello all,

I’m looking to hire multiple PhD students to join my lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Fall 2025. If you are interested/you know of interested candidates, I'd love to hear from you/them.

Contact email: chou [at] gatech [dot] edu

PhD opening flyer: https://trustworthyrobotics.github.io/phd_flyer.pdf

Where to apply: https://gradapp.gatech.edu/apply/

Deadlines: ranging from Dec 2 2024 to Dec 16 2024 (see https://trustworthyrobotics.github.io/openings/ for details)

=============

==== Research overview ====

I direct the Trustworthy Robotics Lab at Georgia Tech, where we design algorithms that can enable general-purpose robots and autonomous systems to operate capably, safely, and securely with humans, while remaining resilient to real-world failures and uncertainty. We are interested in all aspects of robot algorithm design – including the creation of the algorithms themselves, proving their properties, and deploying them on real robotic platforms. Some broad research areas that PhD students may explore in the lab include (but are not limited to) 1) scalable and formally-verified robotic control synthesis, 2) trustworthy learning-based planning and control, and 3) safe and secure human-robot interaction.

==== Desired qualifications ====

- Self-motivated with a background in robotics, control theory, machine learning, or optimization

- Proficiency in programming (Python, C++, MATLAB, Julia, etc.)

- Experience with using real robots and with ROS

- Excellent writing and communication skills

==== How to apply ====

I admit students through multiple PhD programs at Georgia Tech (including AE, CS, ML, and Robotics) – you may apply at https://gradapp.gatech.edu/apply/ to the program that best suits your interests. You are welcome to email me at chou [at] gatech [dot] edu regarding your application. When doing so, please include your CV, relevant transcripts, and a description of your research interests and plans. Please note that I may not have the bandwidth to respond to all inquiries. More details are available at https://trustworthyrobotics.github.io/openings/.

Best,
