Hi everyone,

The AI Safety x Physics Grand Challenge begins tomorrow (July 25-27), and we have a few remaining spots for both remote and in-person participation.

The Challenge

Apply rigorous physics methodologies to critical AI safety problems:

  • Neural network scaling laws and phase transitions
  • Statistical mechanics of AI behavior prediction
  • Renormalization group approaches to interpretability
  • Uncertainty quantification for rare failure modes
What's Provided
  • $400 compute credits per team (Lambda Labs)
  • OpenAI API access for LLM experiments
  • Expert mentors: SLT researchers, scaling law specialists, interpretability experts
  • Two tracks: Project implementation + Research exploration
Participation Options

Remote: Full access to the global research community and resources

In-Person Hubs:

  • Singapore: 22 Cross St (Singapore AI Safety Hub)
  • Cape Town: Innovation City (AI Safety South Africa)
  • Toronto: 30 Adelaide St E (Trajectory Labs)
Target Participants

Physicists, AI researchers, and anyone with quantitative background interested in technical AI safety. No prior AI safety experience required.
