# About the PhD project:
The doctoral student will be employed in the project ”Learning
Object Affordances for Full-body Mobile Manipulation.” The aim of
the project is to use machine learning to extract information
about the ways in which objects in the environment allow a mobile
manipulator to perform complex tasks. In this context, we define
an affordance as a set of constraints that when satisfied afford a
particular task objective: e.g., a door opening affordance could
be formalized as a sequence of constraints on robot base motion,
contact regions and object wrenches that allow the robot to
execute a door opening motion. The main focus of this PhD project
will be on processing and integrating perceptual data to extract
such full-body control affordances.

# What we offer
Four year fully funded employment to do fundamental research on
exciting topics and within a dynamic research environment. We are
looking for students interested in robot learning, with strong
background in computer science, machine learning, and robotics.
The positions are funded through the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous
Systems, and Software Program (WASP). The PhD. students will
belong to the graduate school within WASP
(https://wasp-sweden.org/graduate-school/). Applications will be
considered immediately and up to the application deadline of
2023-09-01. Expected start of employment: no later than 1st
January 2024.
# The successful candidates should have:
* Master of Science degree in computer science, machine learning,
robotics, or a related field
* Motivation to obtain a doctoral degree
* Strong programming skills
* Excellent communication skills in English
* Prior research experience in the areas of machine learning or
robotics is a plus, as is experience with relevant frameworks such
as ROS or PyTorch
Orebro University actively pursues equal opportunities and gender
equality as well as a work environment characterized by openness,
trust and respect. We value the qualities that diversity adds to
our operations. We particularly welcome applications from
candidates from under-represented genders and disadvantaged
backgrounds.
