AI Institutes Program background:
Starting in 2020, NSF and partners began establishing AI Institutes to serve as national nexus points for collaborative AI efforts spanning higher education institutions, federal agencies, industry, and nonprofits/foundations. AI institutes are multidisciplinary, multi-stakeholder teams that focus on advancing our understanding of AI and developing the future AI workforce while addressing some of society’s grand challenges. The number of institutes has grown to 25, with more on the horizon. Information on the current institutes can be found through the AIVO website at https://aiinstitutes.org/.
