Project details: We are offering a funded PhD study in collaboration with I-Form (https://www.i-form.ie/), a renowned research centre focused on additive manufacturing and the use of digital technologies in manufacturing. The aim of the centre is to facilitate the production of high-value components with enhanced material performance, reduced processing times, and improved process reliability. I-Form is a partnership between UCD, DCU, TCD, IT Sligo, NUIG, NUIM and WIT, along with strong collaborative industry engagement in sectors that include medical devices, aerospace, automobile, and microelectronic components.

 

You will have the unique opportunity to advance machine learning techniques in additive manufacturing. Your primary goal will be to maximize the utilization of data generated by the I-Form Center, enabling more efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes. This research will encompass data analysis in both metallic AM parts and multi-material printing, with a strong focus on developing and optimizing digital tools.

 

You will be working under the guidance of Dr. Mimi Zhang (primary supervisor) and Prof. Denis Dowling (co-supervisor). You will be registered and physically hosted in the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College Dublin.

 

Salary: The successful candidate will receive a full scholarship for a four-year structured PhD program. This scholarship covers all university fees for the duration of the program and includes a tax-free stipend of €19,500 per annum for four years. Additionally, a generous budget is provided to support conference travel, equipment, training, placement maintenance, and publication costs.

 

Candidate description: We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor's degree in statistics, math, computer science, or closely related subjects. A solid theoretical and practical knowledge of statistics is essential, along with proficiency in programming.
