A.    Summary:

LJMU's Freeport and Net Zero Transport Thematic Doctoral Pathways (FTDP) programme is offering six full PhD scholarships (UK/international) to develop two PhD cohorts (first-of-their-kind) who will apply their skills in AI, operational research, engineering, and science to tackle transport/logistics decarbonisation, with a focus on UK freeports. This call is for the second cohort (3 PhD scholarships) and is open to both UK and international candidates (to start .

o   Deadline 6th January 2025 (see detailed timeline below)

o   Successful candidates to move to Liverpool and enrol by end of February 2025

o   Full tuition fees,

o   Maintenance stipend + running cover (~ £20,837 per annum) for three years, rising in line with URKI rates,

o   Funded visits to industry and overseas universities to widen your experience and gain career opportunities (averagely 1 month per year),

o   Funded training to gain teaching qualifications (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy) and teaching experience for career development.

1.       Optimisation and AI for a modal shift to freight rail.

2.       Optimisation for the planning of alternative energy in shipping.

3.       Benchmarking freeport/transport optimisation/decarbonisation using apps and digital platforms.

C.       Timeline

•            6-January, 2025: Application deadline

•            13-17-Jan, 2025: Interviews (in person or remote)

•            20-21-Jan, 2025: Successful candidates notified

•            28-Feb, 2025: Relocate to Liverpool and enrol.
