Abstract:
The pervasive influence of social media platforms has undeniably transformed the landscape of contemporary discourse. While these platforms facilitate open discussions on diverse topics, they simultaneously present significant challenges associated with misinformation and the manipulation of public opinion. With the advent of advanced AI and LLMs, the dissemination of misinformation has become increasingly sophisticated, threatening the integrity of online discourse and eroding trust in institutions and among communities. It is crucial for policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to collectively address these issues. The "Artificial Intelligence for a Secure Society" workshop aims to bring together experts from various domains and to address these challenges by exploring the role of AI in identifying, characterizing, mitigating, and combating a wide range of issues related to information disorder, misinformation, disinformation, fake news, coordinated online behavior, and information operations.

Topics covered will include:
- Detection and analysis of coordinated online behaviors, fake news, conspiracy
- Information diffusion models for understanding and thwarting the spread of low-quality information
- Automatic techniques for the detection of propaganda, fake news, hoaxes, and rumors
- Understanding and detection of information operations
- Novel techniques for detecting malicious accounts (e.g., bots and trolls)
- Graph mining and network analysis approaches for studying polarized communities and for reducing polarization
- Metrics and methods for measuring the impact of information disorder
- Detection of deepfake text, image, and video manipulation
- Case-studies and Real-World Applications on misinformation spread and impact in controversial topics (e.g., politics, health, climate change, economics, migration)
