We are delighted to invite applications for a fully funded PhD studentship within the UKRI AI CDT SUSTAIN (Cohort 3, October 2026 start), hosted at the University of Aberdeen in collaboration with the University of Lincoln:
Leveraging Airborne & Ground-Based Drones, Canopy Modelling, Digital Twin Technology and AI Robotics for Climate-Adaptive Vineyard Management in UK Viticulture

This project will integrate airborne and ground-based drones, AI-driven canopy and climate modelling, and digital-twin–based predictive analytics to create a real-time decision-support and autonomous-intervention framework for UK vineyards, enhancing resilience, sustainability, and productivity under climate variability.
The studentship package includes:
• All PhD tuition fees covered (Home & International)
• UKRI tax-free stipend at standard rate
• £3,000 / year RTSG for travel, training & consumables (up to £12k)
• Access to cutting-edge facilities, fieldwork in UK vineyards, and a strong multidisciplinary supervisory team
• Comprehensive training in remote sensing, GIS, drones, photogrammetry, AI/robotics, precision viticulture, research communication & project management
