Research Associate (Postdoctoral Training Fellowship - Machine Learning)

Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, UCL, UK
http://www.gatsby.ucl.ac.uk/

The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit invites applications for a
postdoctoral training fellowship in machine learning and related
areas. The Unit is especially keen to recruit researchers with
expertise in probabilistic modelling, Bayesian statistics,
optimization, or machine learning applied to natural language
processing, machine vision or bioinformatics.

The Unit is a world-class centre for theoretical neuroscience and
machine learning. The Unit has significant interests across a range
of areas in machine learning, including unsupervised learning,
reinforcement learning, Bayesian statistical theory, nonparametric
methods, optimization, and applications to linguistics, vision and
bioinformatics. Machine learning research at the Gatsby Unit is led
by Yee Whye Teh.

For further details of our research please see:
http://www.gatsby.ucl.ac.uk/research.html

The Unit provides a unique environment in which a critical mass of
researchers interact closely with each other and with other
world-class research groups in related departments at UCL. A
cross-faculty Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning
opened at UCL in 2006, spanning the departments of Computer Science,
Statistical Science and the Gatsby Unit. The Unit's visitor and
seminar programmes enable staff and students to engage with leading
researchers from across the world.

Candidates must have a strong analytical background and demonstrable
interest and expertise in machine learning.

Salary is competitive, based on experience and achievement. Training
fellowships are funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and are
part of a continuing program of training postdoctoral researchers in
the discipline. The position is available for an initial period of
between one and two years. Funding is specifically for the purpose of
training a succession of researchers. To ensure the intellectual
renewal of the unit, training fellows are not funded beyond a maximum
two year period.

Applicants should send in pdf, plain text or Word format a CV, a
statement of research interests, and the names and full contact
details (including e-mail addresses) of three referees to:
asst...@gatsby.ucl.ac.uk. In addition applicants should notify
referees to send their letters of reference directly to the the above
email address.

Applicants are directed to further particulars about the position
available from: http://www.gatsby.ucl.ac.uk/vacancies/. Academic
enquiries can be directed to: yw...@gatsby.ucl.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is April 30th, 2009 at 5pm.
Interviews will be held on the 12th June, 2009.
