I am looking for highly talented people to join my Optimization and Machine Learning lab at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. 

Current and past members came from places such as Tsinghua University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Paris-Saclay, Grenoble, University of Edinburgh, University of Campinas, Yerevan State University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Ecole Polytechnique, Comenius University, University of Central Florida, Huawei, École Normale Supérieure, Carnegie Mellon, Nazarbayev University, INTP Toulouse, Technical University of Munich, Cairo University, and IIT Kanpur.

We work on fundamental problems arising at the intersection of optimization and machine learning, including distributed optimization, federated learning, theory of deep learning, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, theory of stochastic gradient descent methods, communication compression, systems for ML, variance reduction, applications of ML and deep learning to science and industry, adaptive methods, and zero, first and second order methods.

We publish in venues such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, JMLR, AISTATS, ALT, UAI, AAAI, SIAM journals, IEEE journals, Mathematical Programming, Optimization Methods and Software, NSDI, ICASSP, MLSP, and more. 

MS/PhD & PhD: Current openings are for Spring 2022 and Fall 2022 entry. Requirements: outstanding academic record, experience with research is not required but is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a very strong mathematics and computer science background. Many benefits, including generous stipend, free on-campus housing, research and conference travel funds, on-campus facilities (beaches, sports facilities, restaurants, ...). 

Postdocs: You can apply at any point in time, the starting date is flexible. These are typically positions for 2-3 years. Requirements: strong research record, with deep research results. Ideally publication record in top ML conferences, or top journals in pure or applied mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering and so on. Excellent salary, benefits and working conditions. 

Research scientists: KAUST offers a range of positions of varying seniority,  roughly equivalent to a postdoc, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor. Outstanding salary, benefits and research conditions. These are typically positions for 3 years or more, and can also be open ended.
