We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work at the intersection of academia and industry through the CHAI Hub (Causality in Healthcare AI). The PhD is in collaboration with Sibel Health and will focus on developing AI-first causal models—including self-supervised representations of physiology and counterfactual sequence prediction—to rethink how we monitor postoperative deterioration in global surgery.

The candidate will join clinical and AI teams at the University of Edinburgh and CHAI, with an industry placement at Sibel Health. You will gain valuable experience working across academic, clinical, and industry environments with strong mentorship from leading experts.

Key Details:

  • Funding: Fully funded (fees and stipend) for UK Home students, but also open to stellar international candidates.

  • Project Title: Causal AI for Continuous Postoperative Deterioration Monitoring in Global Surgery.

  • Start Date: October 2026 in Edinburgh.

For more information on the project and the application process, please visit:

Apply by 19th April 2026 for consideration.
