Örebro University (Sweden) is offering a PhD position in Computer Science with a focus on on learning and reasoning with language models concluding with the doctoral degree. The PhD student will be affiliated with the research Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS, oru.se/aass), which carries out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and computer vision.
Start date: as soon as possible.
The project will investigate how to develop systems that learn and reason with language models in an artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems context. While there has been a lot of progress in natural language processing and in machine learning and language models, the ability of such systems to reason remains limited. Therefore, the project will study integrated approaches to learning and reasoning with language models. It will combine symbolic knowledge based approaches with neural models to address problems related to natural language processing (NLP), conversational AI and language grounding.
The project is part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden’s largest ever individual research program, and a major national initiative for startegic basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.
