Research Topics: The project aims to leverage advanced AI techniques to systematically explore and map proteins from alternative sources, such as peas, facilitating breakthroughs in food technology and other relevant fields.
Admission Criteria:
To participate in the call, a master’s degree in a relevant field such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Computer Science is required. A PhD is not required but is strongly recommended. Previous background in AI and protein analysis is also strongly recommended.

The MLP research group primarily focuses on the development of research in Machine Learning and AI for diverse applications. The group comprises 6+ members with a history of publications in prestigious venues and collaboration with several industrial and academic partners.

The Machine Learning and Perception Lab at the University of Udine, Italy, is seeking expressions of interest for a fully funded PhD position in image and video super-resolution, starting April 1st, 2025.
This position is part of a cutting-edge EU-funded research project on biodegradable sensors and data analytics for smart agriculture. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research with collaborations across industries, departments, and universities within Europe and globally.
Position Details:
- Location: Udine, Italy – a vibrant city known for its rich history, proximity to the Alps and Adriatic coast, and high quality of life. Udine is also an affordable city, offering a comfortable lifestyle and opportunities for recreation within a modest budget.
- Salary: Approximately €1,500 per month (net), which is sufficient to cover living expenses in Udine while enjoying the city’s cultural and social offerings.
- Duration: 3 years, fully funded.
- Support: Includes travel allowances and participation in specialized training opportunities such as summer schools.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Mandatory: Master’s degree in computer science (or a closely related field).

What You'll Be Doing
As a PhD student, you'll be an integral part of our MLP research group, focusing on one of the following innovative projects:
- Image-based food analysis and generation (e.g., estimation of nutrition factors from food images, generative AI for the food industry)
- Egocentric visual tracking
- Skeleton-based action recognition
- Medical imaging (e.g., metal artifacts removal, anomaly detection, etc.)

You're Probably a Match If You Have
