The group of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at TUM Department of Informatics invites applications for the position of a full-time Research Assistant for conducting theoretical research in the field of machine learning and deep learning. The candidate has the opportunity to attain a doctoral degree (Ph.D.). Remuneration is according to German public sector rates.

Research: 
The research group of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence has been recently established in the Department of Informatics at Technical University of Munich (TUM). The group, led by Debarghya Ghoshdastidar, focusses on the theoretical aspects of machine learning and AI. The group works at the intersection of AI and statistics and uses mathematical tools from high-dimensional statistics and information theory to analyse the performance of learning algorithms and the complexity of big data AI problems. 
The successful candidate will conduct research on the theory of deep learning, particularly graph neural networks, and on the theory of learning from large random networks. 

Responsibilities: 
The candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research in the area of machine learning and publish at top machine learning conferences. The position also requires the candidate to assist in teaching and/or supervision of bachelor/master thesis. 

Qualification: 
The candidate must have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics or related fields with prior experience in machine learning or statistics. Excellent mathematical and programming skills are mandatory. Good communication skills (oral and written) in English are required. Knowledge of German is not needed. 

Our offer: 
We offer a full-time (100%) position as academic staff with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. The position is available immediately. The initial contract will be limited to 3 years with the possibility of extension. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L) at E13 level.
