We are looking for candidates for a PhD position at the Computational Imaging Research Lab (CIR) of the Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy, Medical University of Vienna.
We are an interdisciplinary research lab at the interface of machine learning, medical imaging, and precision medicine. We offer a friendy, international working atmosphere, a position in the most livable city, a powerful computing environment and close interactions across disciplines.
As a PhD student, you will be embedded in the ONSET project developing machine learning models to identify newly emerging diseases in a stream of continually collected imaging data (chest CT or XRay). Methodology focus points are anomaly detection, representation learning, modelling the normal variability in extremely large imaging data sets, decoupling variability coming from centers vs. biological variability, or understanding biases in the data.
The project is a collaboration of CIR lab with IAEA/WHO as part of the ZODIAC project, that aims to build a worldwide observatory and early detection capacity for emerging diseases, and the Univ. of Cambridge as part of the AIX-COVNET initiative. Details on the project can be found here:
Beyond the scope of this project, the developed methodology will be an important contribution to enable more effective research and personalized medicine on real-world medical data.
