The Robot Learning Lab (https://rl.cs.uni-freiburg.de) at the University of Freiburg, Germany, headed by Prof. Abhinav Valada currently has multiple open full-time Postdoc and PhD positions on Navigation, SLAM, Perception, and Robot Learning. International candidates are encouraged to apply, knowledge of the German language is not required. Women and people of underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate should have:
+ Master or PhD degree in computer science, robotics, machine learning, computer vision, or a related field
+ Strong passion for robotics, computer vision, mathematics, programming and abstract thinking
+ Programming skills including in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, OpenCV, Git, programming experience in C++ is advantageous
+ Strong experience with robotic systems
+ Background knowledge in any of the following: deep learning, reinforcement learning, navigation, path planning, state estimation, computer vision
+ Excellent written and communication skills in English
+ Additionally for Postdocs:
- Excellent track record (publications in high-impact-factor conferences and journals, e.g. ICRA, IROS, RSS, CoRL, T-RO, IJRR, RA-L, NeurIPS, AAAI, ICCV, CVPR, ECCV, IJCV, T-PAMI)
- Evidence of ability to push own research agenda and lead projects
- Proven theoretical and practical experience in solving complex robotics and robot learning problems and implementing them efficiently.
We furthermore expect outstanding qualifications and interest to work in an interdisciplinary environment. The candidates are expected to conduct independent research and at the same time contribute to the ongoing projects, and guide PhD, master and bachelor students.
About the Lab and Freiburg:
The Robot Learning Lab is part of the ELLIS Unit Freiburg, the Department of Computer Science, and the BrainLinks-BrainTools Center. The lab is equipped with several robots ranging from a self-driving perception car, mobile service robots, UAVs, and mobile manipulators. The lab has state of the art computing resources in the form of multiple GPU clusters.
