Prize Fellowship in Machine Learning, Department of Computer Science, University of Bath, UK

Closing date: Sunday, 29 January 2023

We are recruiting University of Bath Prize Fellows to strengthen and develop existing research excellence in the Faculty of Science. We are welcoming applications across 13 research areas, one of which is in Machine Learning, and we will make 6 appointments.

Our Prize Fellowships offer early-stage researchers the opportunity to join a cohort of like-minded rising research stars. These two-year research fellowships in our priority research areas are part of a scheme intended to fast-track fellows to a permanent appointment at Bath. Alumni of the scheme have become scientific leaders, progressing rapidly within the university to Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor. As a University of Bath Prize Fellow you will have the opportunity to:
  • conduct high quality research as an independent researcher, including securing funding via research grants and/or fellowship applications and building a research group appropriate to the academic department and discipline;
  • develop international research links;
  • contribute to advanced undergraduate teaching and supervision, training and research of graduate students;
  • promote research in the discipline, including public engagement.

The Department of Computer Science is home to the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI). ART-AI offers a uniquely interdisciplinary doctoral training approach, recruiting PhD students from a wide range of backgrounds across computer science and artificial intelligence, engineering and technology, and humanities and social sciences. ART-AI brings these students together in interdisciplinary teams with ML researchers and leading researchers in other fields from across the university and partners. We are continuing to grow our machine learning staff base and research portfolio and benefit from teaching very capable and enthusiastic students. Our MSc Data Science attracts the best students and was listed by Forbes in the top 10 best AI and Data Science courses in the world for 2021.

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. We have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations and have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Silver Athena SWAN award. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, so we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and communities, particularly from under-represented groups such as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic and disabled people, and value the positive impact that will have on our teams. We are very proud to be an autism friendly university and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader; committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff.
