Interested in human movement, computer vision, deep learning, domain generalization, or video classification? Take on a new challenge in biometric footstep recognition, an emerging field with exciting real-world applications in security and healthcare!
The 2nd International StepUP Competition for Biometric Footstep Recognition hosted as part of the IEEE International Joint Conference on Biometrics (IJCB 2026) in Rome, Italy invites researchers to develop verification models using a database of over 200,000 high-resolution recordings of underfoot pressures during walking, tackling three key challenges: (1) generalization to new users with limited reference samples, (2) robustness to unseen conditions, including extreme shifts in footwear and walking speeds, and (3) fusion of information from consecutive footsteps.
The competition ends May 12th, 2026. Top teams will be invited to co-author a summary paper for IJCB 2026. To learn more, access an example PyTorch implementation, and submit your solutions to a live leaderboard, head to the competition webpage.
