Relevance Scientist:

Yandex Labs is looking to fill a full-time research scientist position in their Web relevance group. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in machine learning, information retrieval or a related field, be hands on in UNIX scripting and code development, and will contribute to research, experimentation and code development in the area of Web search quality development in the labs. Requirements:

• MS or PhD in Computer Science or related major
• Solid mathematical background
• Strong C++ development skills
• Strong UNIX skills, ideally supported by software development experience in UNIX
• Project experience in machine learning, data mining, graph theory, information retrieval or related area
• Ability to adapt to changing requirements and perseverance in achieving goals
• Ability to work with little supervision, "hands-on"
• Good communication and team player skills

Desired Skills:

• Contributions made to one of existing Web search engines
• Hadoop/Map-Reduce development experience a plus
• Coursework or experience in computational linguistics, statistics

Internships:

Yandex Labs is looking for interns to work on exciting projects in search engine quality and optimization, such as crawling, indexing and various aspects of learning to rank in their Palo Alto office. The internships will be centered around one or several projects chosen mutually by the Yandex Labs mentor and the intern, and will ideally result in a publication in a major conference or journal and have impact on Yandex production systems.
