The advertised position will be located in the Research Platform “Data Analysis and Simulation” within the Working Group “Landscape Modelling”. This group develops and applies simulation models in the context of agricultural landscapes, with focus on large-area agricultural production and its feedback with the systems’ water and nutrient dynamics and related human decisions.

At our location in Müncheberg, we are offering a 36-month temporary position for a

Post-doc Scientist (m/f/d) on AI and Agent-based methods in Agriculture
70-2024

We invite

… applications of early-career researchers that have developed a deeper understanding on individual-based modelling (agent-based modelling, cellular automata, etc.) and/or reinforcement learning methods.

The successful candidate is expected to work along the following research trajectories:

  •   develop methods for integrating models for human decision making and biophysical models for ecosystem services
  •   integrate agent-based modelling with reinforcement learning for spatially explicit land-use and -demand modelling
  •   analyse the interplay effects of mechanistic biophysical and behavioural models in the landscape context

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated researcher with a PhD and a background in agricultural, geological, biological, data, computational, mathematical or environmental sciences. Good command of programming is mandatory. Previous experience in mechanistic modelling and advanced statistical approaches would be beneficial.
