Hi all,

The group of Jens Sjölund at Uppsala University, Sweden is searching for a PhD student in Machine Learning in the area of simulation-based inference.

In more detail, the PhD project is about (1) modeling and numerically simulating the internal structure of rechargeable batteries, and (2) developing machine learning methods, based on simulation-based inference and differentiable programming, to infer this structure from indirect measurements. The interdisciplinary project is in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry but the appointed PhD student will be affiliated with the Department of Information Technology.

The offered position is fully funded for five years (incl. 20% teaching duties) and the salary after taxes ranges from 23500-27000 SEK (approx. 2200-2500 USD) per month. The starting date is supposed to be September 1st, 2024 but it can be negotiated.

Application Details can be found here.
The offered position is about Project 12: "Simulation-based inference on metal plating dynamics".

The deadline for applying is March 22th, 2024. Please contact Jens Sjölund (jens.s...@it.uu.se) before submitting your application.

Requirements:
- Strong mathematical background (a degree in Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science is advantageous)
- Interest in probabilistic modeling, statistical machine learning, and numerical optimization
- Excellent academic record
- Interest in interdisciplinary research

Why should you apply?
- Interdisciplinary research project enhancing rechargeable batteries using Machine Learning.
- The research group regularly publishes at top-tier Machine Learning venues.
- Fully-funded position for five years with a decent salary (approx. 2200-2500 USD after taxes per month).
