The Philosophy Department at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, appointment of any rank beginning Fall 2026. The department seeks candidates whose research interfaces significantly with that of the
CMU-CLeaR group and the Tetrad initiative. While Areas of Specialization/Areas of Competence are open, candidates who work in Causal Learning and Reasoning, Philosophy of Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Machine Learning, Quantitative Social Sciences, or at their intersections are especially encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applications are due by November 20, 2025. To apply, submit the following materials: a letter of intent; curriculum vitae; research statement; educational or teaching statement; 3 letters of recommendation; and one sample of research (e.g., draft paper, published paper or book chapter) at https://apply.interfolio.com/173580

The Department of Philosophy strongly supports interdisciplinary and collaborative research. The successful candidate may have a PhD from any discipline, but must show significant engagement with philosophical or foundational issues.  If you are interested, you are encouraged to reach out to Peter Spirtes (ps...@andrew.cmu.edu) or Kun Zhang (ku...@cmu.edu) before or at the time of submitting your application.
