Dear colleagues,

Please see below for announcements from the CHIL organizing team. We apologize in advance for any duplicate emails you receive.

DEADLINE EXTENSION

The deadline to submit papers to CHIL has been extended to Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:59pm EST.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The AHLI Conference on Health, Inference, and Learning (CHIL) solicits work across a variety of disciplines, including machine learning, statistics, epidemiology, health policy, operations, and economics. CHIL 2023 invites submissions focussed on significant problems affecting health. Specifically, authors are invited to submit 8-10 page papers (with unlimited pages for references) to any of three tracks: 1) Models and Methods, 2) Applications and Practice, or 3) Impact and Society. See www.chilconference.org/call-for-papers for more information.

DOCTORAL SYMPOSIUM

The AHLI CHIL 2023 Doctoral Symposium is an opportunity for PhD students to broadcast their research and get feedback on their directions from CHIL attendees and leaders in the field. Participants will present their ongoing and/or future doctoral dissertation work as both a 5 minute lightning presentation and as a poster, encouraging cross-pollination of ideas with senior leaders and CHIL participants. In addition to the lightning talks and poster session, participants will have facilitated opportunities to connect with and meet established researchers one-on-one throughout the conference. Apply here by February 17, 2023.

UNCONFERENCE LIGHTNING TALKS

The AHLI CHIL 2023 invites abstracts for 5 minute lightning talks on the topic “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better” that highlight machine learning in health failures that still surprise. Specifically, authors are invited to submit 1 page abstracts (with unlimited pages for references). If you are not sure if your submission fits the call, please reach out to the conference organizers (in...@chilconference.org) for advice. See www.chilconference.org/call-for-lightning for submission format and guidelines. Submissions are due February 28, 2023.

PROGRAM

We look forward to seeing you in-person this year at CHIL, which will be held at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts from June 22-24, 2023.

This year’s program will include a variety of stellar keynotes from speakers including Dina Katabi, Munmun De Choudhury, Emma Pierson, Roxana Daneshjou, Jun Cheng, and Dina Demner-Fushman. We’ll also have a panel on generalizability versus specificity in health data, moderated by Isaac Kohane and featuring  Jason Fries, Lauren Oakden-Rayner, Leo Celi, and Maia Hightower, and one on the risks, limitations, and solutions for health data sharing, moderated by Marzyeh Ghassemi and featuring speakers including Ziad Obermeyer, John Halamka, and Elaine Nsoesie. Day 3 will  feature additional, “unconference style” content, including debates, research roundtables, lightning talks, opportunities to connect with the community, and perspectives on the state of machine learning in healthcare across both research and deployment from Nigam Shah and Karandeep Singh.

REGISTRATION

Registration will open on February 15, 2023. Follow us on Twitter (@CHILconference) or email us at in...@chilconference.org to join our mailing list to receive updates on registering and booking travel and accommodation.
