We are recruiting for the project ANTICIPATE that start in October 2025. In this initiative we will bring together reinforcement learning, epidemic modelling and genomics to help hospitals: detect respiratory viruses early,  optimize pandemic response strategies and maintain care during future pandemics.

We are looking for two motivated PhD students and one motivated postdoctoral researcher, with fulltime funding for four years:
- Fully-funded PhD in fundamental reinforcement learning algorithm research to support the optimisation of pandemic response strategies, for candidates with a background in AI (master’s degree in computer science or a related domain such as physics, mathematics or applied mathematics).
- Fully-funded PhD in AI to investigate the use of reinforcement learning to learn optimal policies for pandemic response strategies in fine-grained simulators, for candidates with a background in computer science and interest in conducting practical experiments (master’s degree in computer science or a related domain such as physics, mathematics or applied mathematics).
- Fully-funded Postdoc in AI (4 years), to co-manage the ANTICIPATE project and conduct high-profile research on the boundary of algorithm development and pandemic policy mitigation, with a focus on reinforcement learning and computational biology.
