Fully funded 4-year PhD fellowships available in the PhD
programme in Theoretical and Scientific Data Science at the International
School for Advanced Studies (SISSA).

https://pica.cineca.it/sissa/phd-datascience-03-2021/ (special fellowship on data science to study ovarian cancer; you can apply for both positions)
Deadline 31/08/21; international applications are particularly
welcome, as are applications from women and other
under-represented groups.
The programme involves a first year of advanced courses followed by three years of research; the main interests of the group centre on the foundations of machine learning, and its application to the natural sciences, particularly cosmology, materials science and biology. SISSA is a PhD school with a strong reputation in Physics, Mathematics and Neuroscience; the Data Science programme was recently jump-started with an 8M eur grant from the Italian government, recruiting three new international faculty members (Dr Sebastian Goldt, Prof Roberto Trotta and myself). The group has strong collaborative links with many top labs in Europe and beyond, including EMBL-EBI, Human Technopole, Cambridge, Imperial College, Edinburgh, ENS Paris, EPFL and others. Trieste is a beautiful historical city on the Italian- Slovenian border, on the northenmost tip of the Mediterranean sea, with a strong cultural life and ideally positioned for any outdoor activity.
