image.gifThe Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research Training in Advanced Networks for Sustainable Societies (https://www.advance-crt.ie/), Munster Technological University (www.mtu.ie) invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in context-aware machine learning/deep learning techniques for eHealth.

The SFI Centre for Research Training in Advanced Networks for Sustainable Societies focuses on enabling technologies for future hyper-networks, including concepts such as network virtualization, dependable communications, Internet of Things, data driven network management and applications in sustainable and independent living. This centre will train the next generation of researchers who will seek solutions to the technical and societal challenges of global hyper-connectivity.

Our aim is to ensure that the next generations of communications technology are developed with human and societal benefit as a priority objective."


The successful candidate will contribute to the multi-million euro H2020 Project WARIFA - Watching the risk factors: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the prevention of chronic conditions. The main focus areas of the project are the prevention of melanoma skin cancer by reducing unhealthy sun exposure, and the prevention of the complications of diabetes by improving lifestyle risk factors such as unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. In collaboration with the project partners from universities, hospitals and research centres, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel machine learning/deep learning techniques for context data reasoning.

Funding Notes & Eligibility Criteria

The ADVANCE CRT postgraduate programme offers excellent student a fully-funded PhD where they will receive a tax-free stipend of approx. €18,500 per year for up to four years including EU tuition fees, research and equipment costs and all costs associated with training related covered.


Eligibility criteria & application process

We invite applications from individuals who hold at least a 2.1 honours undergraduate/postgraduate degree in relevant disciplines such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related disciplines with strong programming skillsIn addition, it is desirable that a candidate has skills in:

i) Hierarchical Bayesian Networks/Deep Learning algorithms

ii) Semantic and structured database

iii) Handling ubiquitous data

iv) Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Why you wish to undertake an ADVANCE Degree PhD (with reference to your future career plans)
