A fully funded PhD position on the topic of Identifying biases in the news using models of narrative framing is available in the NLP group at Melbourne University. The goal of the project is to develop methods to analyze and describe prevalent patterns of narratives and selective framing in news coverage of contemporary polarizing issues. The project is lead by Dr. Lea Frermann, and is embedded in our leading NLP group at one of the world's top universities and most liveable cities.
Ideal candidates should have experience in natural language
processing, in particular empirical methods, as well as a
documented research interest in fairness in NLP or
cross-disciplinary approaches, for instance drawing on work in
cognitive science or the humanities.
The position stays open until filled, with an expected start date in September 2023 (negotiable).
