Title: Research Postdoctoral Fellow (AI/NLP/Machine Learning)

 

Description

The Center for Translational Research at the Children's National Research Institute within Children's National Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral fellow to join our interdisciplinary team.

 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in groundbreaking research at the intersection of AI, Machine Learning, NLP, and Mental Health. The primary focus will be on creating and implementing advanced techniques to enhance mental health outcomes for children and adolescents, with a specific emphasis on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The fellow will be responsible for developing AI methods to extract information from clinical notes and large social media data, constructing models for predicting health outcomes, publishing research articles, presenting the findings at national and international research conferences and preparing grant proposals. 

 

As a fellow at the Center for Translational Research, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed faculty, researchers, and students from the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences and GW School of Public Health. This will provide the fellow with a diverse and dynamic environment to conduct the research and expand knowledge and skills in the field.

The Center for Translational Research at Children's National Hospital is a research center that focuses on advancing medical treatments for children using cutting-edge technologies and innovative research methods. This center conducts basic, translational, and clinical research studies to improve the health and well-being of children. The research focuses on a wide range of pediatric diseases and conditions, including cancer, genetic disorders, and developmental disorders. The center also aims to develop new therapies and treatments to improve the quality of life for children and their families. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Computational Neuroscience, or a related field. 

 

Required Skills/Knowledge

 A strong background in AI, Machine Learning, NLP, and Mental Health.

Experience with knowledge graph and deep learning techniques.

Strong programming skills in Python and experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.

Knowledge of ADHD is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

A demonstrated potential for a successful career in research and related scholarly achievement.

 

Functional Accountabilities

Responsible Conduct of Research

Consistently demonstrates adherence to the standards for the responsible conduct of research. 

Develops and implements novel algorithms and models to improve mental health outcomes.

Presents research findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.

Assists the principal investigator with grant writing. 

Plans, conducts, and manages research projects within federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.

Maintains confidentiality of data as required.

Meets all annual job-related training and compliance requirements.

 

Commitment to Research

Conducts research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s) relevant practice specialty.

Participates in reviewing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

 

Collaborations

Collaborates effectively with CNRI researchers, external agencies, and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives, promote free discussion, research progress, skills productivity and morale with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.

 

Program Support

Assists the principal investigator in the planning and execution research projects, grant applications and publications.

May train technical staff, graduate students, and others in research lab, provide general supervision in the lab, and assist with data management and analysis, based on experience.
