Are you passionate about graph machine learning and its potential to address real-world scientific challenges? At Aalborg University, Denmark, we invite applications for a PhD position in a collaborative project at the intersection of graph machine learning and ecological/biological systems.
This position offers a unique opportunity to develop novel representation learning methods for modelling the structure and dynamics of complex networks, with a view towards understanding static and temporal networks in scientific domains.
About the position
The PhD position is focused on learning the structure and dynamics of complex networks. The project will involve developing representation learning methods on graphs for modelling static and temporal networks, with possible applications to ecological and biological systems.
The position is based at the Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University, and is expected to start on 1 October 2026 or soon thereafter.
The ideal candidate should have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, or a related field, with a strong background in machine learning. Experience with probabilistic modelling, Bayesian machine learning, graph representation learning, Python, and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch is considered relevant.
Why Aalborg University?
The Computer Science Department at Aalborg University takes a leading international position within data management and verification. It is a very young university (1974) but with a strong international profile in Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering, also hosting the two most highly cited Computer Scientists of the country.
Why Aalborg?
Aalborg is a lively and welcoming city with a rich cultural scene and a high quality of life. The area offers a relatively low cost of living, clean air, beautiful forests and beaches, and excellent transportation infrastructure.
