AABI2022 Call for Participation

We invite researchers in Machine Learning and Statistics to participate in the 4th Symposium on Advances in Approximate Bayesian Inference (AABI2022).

Symposium website:

http://approximateinference.org

Overview

In recent years, there have been numerous advances in approximate inference methods, which have enabled Bayesian inference in increasingly challenging scenarios involving complex probabilistic models and large datasets. The 4th Symposium on Advances in Approximate Bayesian Inference (AABI) will discuss this impact of Bayesian inference, connecting both variational and Monte Carlo methods with other fields.

Virtual Event

This year AABI will be a virtual event, consisting of 2 sessions over 2-days in mid January 2022 (exact date to be announced on the website). The sessions will cover invited talks, contributed talks and posters.

Key Dates

Submission deadline: 19 November 2021 (11:59pm AOE)

Acceptance notification: 24 December 2021

Camera ready for accepted submissions: 12 January 2022

Topics

We encourage submissions that relate (but not limited) to the following topics:

  • Core (approximate) Bayesian inference techniques

    • Variational Inference

    • Monte Carlo

    • Message passing

    • Bayesian quadrature

    • Universal inference algorithms (i.e. for probabilistic programming)

    • Exact Inference Techniques

    • Connecting different approximate inference methods

    • Other Approximation methods

  • Applications of Bayesian inference and probabilistic models, e.g.:
    • Uncertainty quantification in deep learning
    • Reinforcement learning
    • Decision processes
    • Causal inference
    • Bayesian compression
    • Differential privacy
    • Generative models
    • scientific applications (physics, biology, chemistry, etc)

Submission Details

We invite researchers to submit their recent work on the development, analysis, or application of approximate Bayesian inference. A submission should take the form of a short paper of 3-6 pages in PDF format using the PMLR one-column style (template available on the AABI website). For questions and troubleshooting, visit CTAN.

The review process will be double-blind. Author names need to be anonymized and references may extend as far as needed beyond the 6-page upper limit. Submissions may include a supplement/appendix, but reviewers are not responsible for reading any supplementary material.

All accepted submissions will be accompanied with a presentation. Presentations will take the form of online video summaries and posters, and papers will be made available on the symposium website. The authors of selected submissions will be invited to present their work in a contributed talk during one of the online seminars and/or to publish their paper in a PMLR volume.

Dual submission policy: If a paper has previously appeared in a journal, workshop, or conference (including the NeurIPS 2021 conference), it should be extended in order to be accepted at AABI. If a paper is currently under review (e.g. in AISTATS 2022 or ICLR 2022), it can still be submitted to AABI but it won’t be eligible for publication to PMLR through the symposium. Authors of such a paper should notify us during submission through OpenReview.

The submission website is on Openreview (see the AABI website). Camera-ready versions are due by 12 January 2022, and will be posted on the symposium website.
