Overview

The Symposium on Knowledge Discovery, Mining and Learning (KDMiLe) aims at integrating researchers, practitioners, developers, students and users to present theirs research results, to discuss ideas, and to exchange techniques, tools, and practical experiences related to the Data Mining and Machine Learning areas.

KDMiLe is organized alternately in conjunction with The Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS) and the Symposium on Database Systems (SBBD). This year, 2014, in its second edition, KDMiLe will be held in Sao Carlos, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil from October 20 to 21 in conjuntion with the The Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS) and Encontro Nacional de Inteligência Artificial e Computacional (ENIAC – National Meeting of Artificial and Computational Intelligence).

The KDMiLe Program Committee invites submissions containing new ideas and proposals, and also applications, in the Data Mining and Machine Learning areas. Submitted papers will be reviewed based on originality, relevance, technical soundness and clarity of presentation.

Symposium Venue

Sao Carlos is located in the state of Sao Paulo in the Southeast of Brazil. The city is one of the greatest university centers in Brazil. Sao Carlos boasts a very diversified and high quality hotel service. The city has good restaurants, barbecue houses, bars and cafés, as well as good music and cinemas to provide a variety of entertainment. Sao Carlos is home of two of the most important Brazilian Universities, the Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP) and the Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos (UFSCar). Thus, Sao Carlos is a university-oriented town, with an abundance of student-focused commercial establishments. It is also known for its student parties. Sao Carlos' cultural life is marked by a young audience that enjoys musical concerts of Brazilian contemporary alternative artists that usually include the city in their tours. There are two important events celebrated every year in the city, the Climate Party, which happens in April and has a traditional Orchid Exposition which features a craftwork fair and several food barracks. An Oktobertech Fest is held yearly along with the Sao Carlos High Tech Fair (Fealtec).

Submission Guidelines

Submission web page : https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=kdmile2014

Papers may be written in Portuguese or English, and may be submitted in two formats: FULL PAPER (not exceeding 8 pages, for original work) and SHORT PAPER (not exceeding 4 pages, for emerging ideas and research in progress). Papers exceeding this limit will be automatically rejected without being reviewed by the Program Committee. In addition, papers must be submitted in PDF format. Formats other than PDF will NOT be accepted.

Both full and short papers will be published electronically in the KDMiLe proceedings. A preliminary version of the proceedings, including all the accepted papers, will be available to the symposium attendees.

Papers submitted to KDMiLe must not have been simultaneously submitted to any other forum (conference or journal), nor should they have already been published elsewhere. The acceptance of a paper implies that at least one of its authors will register for the symposium to present it. Submitted papers will be reviewed based on originality, relevance, technical soundness and clarity of presentation.

Before submitting a paper, and no later than June 23th 2014, authors must register its title, list of authors and abstract through the submission Web page https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=kdmile2014. Papers must be submitted by July 1st, 2014 using the same website.
The templates for submission are available at

Journal Special Issue

In its first edition, authors of selected papers accepted for presentation in KDMiLe 2013 have been invited to submit extended and revised versions of these papers to a special issue of JIDM (Journal of Information and Database Management). This year, we intend to follow this same policy of encouraging the best submissions with publication in an international journal. More information about that will be available soon.
