Dear Colleagues,

(Sorry for cross-posting)

A postdoctoral position is available in the Music and Audio Computing Lab (http://mac.citi.sinica.edu.tw/) at Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Folks in the lab are working on deep learning and tensor-based approaches to music information retrieval, in particular the following topics:

- Content and context-based music recommendation
- Music/sound auto-tagging
- Source separation
- Music generation
- Emotion recognition from musical and physiological signals

The first and second topics (recommendation and tagging) involve collaboration with industrial partners, whereas the last topic (emotion recognition) involves collaboration with researchers from different disciplines, including biomedical engineering, neuroscience, health management, and musicology.

The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable in one or more of the aforementioned topics, with a good publication record in the signal processing, machine learning, or affective computing fields.  Strong programming skills in either Python or MATLAB and the ability to work in a team are essential.

The position is available immediately and is for one year with good potential for extension. These projects are funded by different grants so we do not need to worry about proposal writing for the time being. We already have some PhD students and full-time research assistants working on these topics, so to begin with we expect the postdoc join one of these topics and take the lead by supervising the students.  If later the postdoc wants to propose new topics we can work together to apply for a new grant.

Academia Sinica is the top research institute in Taiwan. It's located in eastern Taipei, and is easily accessible to downtown Taipei.  The rental for a master room nearby Academia Sinica is about 250 USD per month.  The salary will be commensurate to qualification and experience but would be around 28,000 USD (pre-tax) per year, including insurance.

To apply, please send me a mail along with your CV and a research statement.

Best,
Eric
