Dear All,

The School of Computer Science & Informatics at the University of Liverpool has secured funding from Innovate UK for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project with Carpenters Group. We invite applications for full-time Data Scientist and AI Engineer positions on a three-year LegalTech project. The role will involve working with Professor Katie Atkinson and myself at the university, alongside legal industry experts at Carpenters Group.

This position provides an opportunity to work inside a research-driven commercial environment, building real-world AI solutions for the legal services sector. Carpenters Group is a market-leading insurance legal services provider, and the focus of our joint project will be on automating legal processes and developing advanced AI tools.

The project will develop commercial-grade AI systems leveraging techniques from machine learning, natural language processing, neurosymbolic AI and explainable AI (XAI).

We welcome applicants who have:
- At least an MSc (PhD preferred) in Computer Science or a closely related field
- Strong academic or commercial research experience in AI / ML
- Excellent programming and software engineering skills
- Motivation to work across academia and industry to deliver impactful AI solutions

In addition to a competitive salary (university Grade 7), the role holder will also have access to a substantial annual training budget for their professional development, the opportunity to work closely with leading AI researchers and industry innovators, and be part of a team that is focussed on driving digital transformation in legal tech.
